My digital images are created from hand-painted and hand-drawn elements combined and sometimes coloured in PhotoShop. Below you can see a selection of the finished artworks, details of the finished artworks, and some of the unedited drawings used to create them. At no point in my process is AI ever used.

I’ve been illustrating children’s books for nearly thirty years. My medium and approach changes to suit each project. Below you can see a selection of illustrations that employ media including: dip pen and ink, monotype, graphite pencil, soft pastel, foam print, watercolour and charcoal. In most cases the colour has been applied on the computer, because it allows me a lot of flexibility. For Jo and the NO, I applied colour using digital halftone dots which offered me another way to overlay colour and texture.

Many of my smaller works utilise up-cycled elements, especially old books. Some drawings respond directly to elements already on the pages, especially if I can find books with geometric diagrams. I often use collage and mixed media and I enjoy using simple printmaking techniques. Printmaking has an unpredictable charm and often a broken or stippled surface which offers me another way of overlaying texture and colour.
